Panchakarma – Comprehensive And Sustainable Restoring Inner Wellbeing

Especially in our modern world, we are confronted daily with a variety of internal and external factors: stress, environmental toxins such as exhaust gases or additives in food. The sum of these burdens can unbalance a healthy body and lead to long-term illnesses. To keep our bodies healthy, we can reduce stress, focus on ourselves, and divert the toxins taken in everyday life – and this is where Panchakarma – or Detox – treatment helps.

What is Panchakarma/Detox?

Panchakarma, or Detox, is an essential part of Ayurvedic medicine and translates as “five actions”. In a Panchakarma treatment, depending on the complaints of the person to be treated, five possible diversion procedures are used. These assist the body in cleaning toxins, intensively purifying mentally and emotionally, and restoring the body’s own balance. The type of disorder and the respective basic constitution (Vata, Pitta or Kapha constitution) of the patient determines the form of the purification.

The three phases of the Panchakarma cure

The Panchakarma cure is divided into three phases:

The first phase is the preparation of the body. In this phase, the patient drinks liquid ghee to release toxins. Once released, special ayurvedic massages are performed to help the body excrete these toxins through the gastrointestinal tract or skin.

The cleaning phase represents the second phase of the treatment. Here, the elimination processes are used. The therapist decides at this point quite individually, which procedures should be used in which order.

The third and final phase is reconstruction. This section helps the body strengthen digestion and restore balance in the cleansed body. Light physical activities such as yoga or longer walks are recommended here and a slow change of diet.

The benefits of a Panchakarma/Detox treatment.

A Panchakarma treatment can bring the following benefits:

  • Promote better metabolic function and improve cardiovascular capacity by reducing toxins in the body.
  • An increase in energy level.
  • Strengthening the immune system.
  • Restoring the balance of vital energies Vata – Pitta – Kapha.
  • Improving the appearance of the skin and slowing down the ageing process.
